The label is part of the registration file, and a separate assessment reviews what is printed on it. The FAIRS report requires importers to apply for a label assessment on food items prior to entry into the country, through ZAD, FIRS or ZADI, and the assessment reviews the barcode, trade name, brand name, nutritional information, country of origin, shelf life and storage condition, among others. Two structural rules follow from the same section: different packaging sizes of the same food item count as different items and must be registered separately, and any label amended or modified after the initial approval, including changes to packages, weight, label or barcode, requires a reassessment. The full mandatory element list, the GSO 9 labelling standard behind it and the Arabic language requirements are detailed in our dedicated label guides: read the
GSO food label requirements guide and the
Arabic labelling requirements for UAE products, and keep the artwork frozen once the assessment is filed, because every later edit reopens the file.
